Both the “Chat and Party” tab and the Friends list on the homepage should automatically update every once in a while. Kinda annoying to have to refresh in order to get accurate info, and if you have multiple tabs open it can be inaccurate.
We’re currently in the process of making these changes.

Wow, how do you guys read minds?
The Chat and Party tab should be pretty real time now. We made these changes recently. Before it would take a couple minutes to update if someone came online / went into game. Now it should take 5-10 seconds (and we’ll continue to try and make it more real-time). There are still a couple bugs that we’re sorting out, but after that we’ll start updating your friends’ status dynamically (friends list on homepage, friends profiles). At least that’s the plan.
